FAQ Category: Lab Freezer Temperatures
Can a regular freezer be used to prep and store lab freezer temperature panels?
Yes, but to get the panels truly hard, the freezer must maintain a temperature lower than -30°C. Otherwise, the panel will be at the temperature of the freezer (in a liquid state) and just won’t last as long.
Why are the Frozen Temperature panels not turning solid?
The PCM inside is NOT below its phase change temperature of -21.5°C/-6.7°F. Make sure that the freezer temperature is always below -23°C/-9.4°F.
Do I need a special freezer for the Varicella Cool Cube™ panels?
Your freezer must be below at least -15°C. -25°C or below is recommended to get the panels solid (for maximum hold time). The colder the storage environment, the less time is needed to condition the panels for use.
